Coordinator, MS Delta
Rootswell is a growing movement in the Mississippi Delta, lifting up and supporting access to fresh, affordable, local food.
Rooted in community, Rootswell is uniting farmers, chefs, corner stores, farmers markets, creatives, and organizers to transform the region's food landscape, in collaboration with Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA).
The Delta's food ecosystem is blossoming, with communities reclaiming ownership of their food and farms in powerful ways. Rootswell is illuminating the incredible work already underway, while sourcing funding and resources to uplift small farms and businesses.
To guide this work, Rootswell is focused on three goals:
By connecting locally-grown produce to local kitchens and families' tables, Rootswell is paving the way for a healthier, more joyful way of living in the Delta—one that celebrates the rich heritage and potential of the region.
A 12-week produce box program connecting Delta farmers to families through 15–20 varieties of fresh fruits and vegetables, with pickup at local clinics and community organizations.
Bringing fresh produce into neighborhood corner stores so healthy choices are convenient and affordable where people already shop
An initiative that awards grants directly to small-scale, community-driven farmers, growers, and food entrepreneurs serving the MS Delta, to help them get more good food into their communities.
Expanding access to fresh, local food by strengthening farmers markets and mobile markets across the Delta.
Working together to create positive change for food and health equity in the MS Delta.
